The Gran Turismo 7 Finnish Championship is here again!
In 2022, history was made as the national championship of PlayStation’s Gran Turismo 7 was competed for the first time in Finland – although the GT game series is already 25 years old. The final round of the championship series – organized by the Finnish Auto Simracing Team (F.A.S.T.) – was driven live in the Tubecon Games event. The final was driven on amazing OverPower rigs, so the finalists really had to adapt compared to home conditions. The first ever GT7 Finnish Champion turned out to be Johannes Karhapää from Rovaniemi aged 17!
Now, the GT7 Finnish Championship series is here again!
There will be five races in the qualifying series this year – Sep 17th, Oct 8th, Oct 29th, Nov 19th, and Dec 10th – and the final round after those. The twelve drivers with the most points advance to the main final to challenge the title-holding GT7 Finnish Champion Johannes Karhapää.
The qualifying series is driven with Jaguar F-type GT4 with tuning allowed and GT7’s dynamic weather. On qualifying race Sundays, qualification time trials are driven in the afternoon, and the best 26 drivers will compete in A and B finals for the desired Finnish Championship points in the evening (from 6 p.m. Finnish time onward).
All final races of the championship series will be live-streamed
with (mainly Finnish) commentary on F.A.S.T.’s YouTube channel.

Four best results from the five qualifying series races will be counted together, and the 12 drivers with the most points will compete in the final round with the title-holding Champion.
The GT7 Finnish Championship is meant to be a low-threshold series with quite minimal requirements for participation. The drivers need to be Finnish citizens (obviously), have a PlayStation 4 or 5 console, controller or wheel/pedals, and Gran Turismo 7 game. Also, they have to pay for an official competition license by the Finnish Esports Federation (SEUL) of only 15 euros.
This year there will be some awesome prizes for the best drivers!
F.A.S.T. and Crazy Finn Academy (CFA) have joined forces, and the best drivers of the GT7 Finnish Championship 2023 series will have the opportunity to participate in an official test day with CFA’s top simulators!
On the test day, drivers get to drive on a world-class simulator and their driving is measured in every possible way, just like in formula tests. After the drive, the laps can be broken down into very small data details. It’s possible to compare the results with professional drivers, after which it’s known whether the driver is a true talent and possibly the next flying Finn on world’s racing tracks! It’s possible that the results will be analyzed by, e.g., the experienced race engineer Ossi Oikarinen, so the analysis of the drivers’ potential will be very accurate.
For example, Roope Korhonen, Teemu Asunmaa, and Lauri Halonen are involved and train with Crazy Finn Academy! Also, CFA’s simulators have been used for their training by, e.g., Kalle Rovanperä, William Alatalo, and Tuukka Taponen.
